Orion Fredericks drawing - "Eclipse"

During my time in the Northeast, surrounded by trees and quiet nature, life slowed from the noisy pace of Las Vegas to a rhythmic, almost cicadic pulse. Daily walks around a beaver pond became a meditative ritual, where the reflections of moss-covered trees inspired drawings born from deep reflection and an intuitive connection to the natural world.

This period of calm sparked a creative evolution, blending drawing with music creation with Boenobo Zjo under the name “SupaFroopy.” The shapes and textures emerging from our music influenced my visual art, each piece telling its own story. These drawings became living songs, inviting viewers to listen closely and unravel the emotional threads woven within their lines.

The piece Eclipse was born during the 2023 solar eclipse. Choosing warmth over travel, I observed shifting light patterns on my glass sculptures and paper, capturing the eerie twilight and primal silence of totality. Inspired by the fiery solar prominences emerging from darkness, my hand moved to draw the raw tension between awe and uncertainty at the heart of this celestial event.
