Sentry (M-548A Semi-Autonomous Firefighting and Rescue Tank) is a humanitarian project conceived by Jamie Hyneman in collaboration with Cooper Grey Robotics and Anduril. Designed to fight wildfires and conduct rescues, it operates both manually and remotely via VR. Built in West Oakland, it combines simple and advanced technologies to tackle emergencies with versatile suppression and rescue functions.

The vehicle’s aluminum chassis, originally a military troop transport, helps shed radiant heat. Pneumatic steering enables remote control, with manual override available. Its firefighting arsenal includes water and foam cannons, a fresh water misting system for cooling tracks, and a water curtain bar that clears paths through intense flames.

Protected by aluminized Kevlar, Sentry embodies a forward-thinking approach to fire safety with real-time satellite monitoring enhancing its autonomy. Remarkably affordable — costing less than a new car — it originated from a facility that not only sells retired military vehicles but also offers training to operate them, making advanced firefighting accessible and practical.
