This incredible opportunity arose through a local Bay Area production company — one of those rush jobs that seem to appear out of nowhere. You can’t say no, and of course, they want it yesterday. As is often the case, the reality of working with the materials and aligning with the vision of the digital concept always takes longer than expected. The challenge was to seamlessly incorporate additional elements like cryogenics and specialized engines, all while emphasizing the scissor-lift action, which ultimately worked brilliantly on stage.

This sculpture became just one of the many ‘spaceships’ in Skrillex’s arsenal, each designed to bring a unique, larger-than-life presence to his performances. The final faux painting on the all-steel body was a crucial touch, imparting an aged, historical feel to the piece — giving it the sense of a relic from a distant corner of the universe. The piece not only became a visual marvel but also enhanced the immersive experience of Skrillex’s live shows, evoking a narrative of both future and past, technology and mythology.
