The Twins are two alien-like critters, each standing 6 feet tall with a 5-by-5-foot stance, crafted from cold-forged 16-gauge stainless steel with bronze horns. Designed to embody synergetic duality, they can soothe with melodic tones or engage in playful rhythmic chatter. Their pivoting, horned masks activate through internal combustion, bringing them to life with sound and fire.
The Twins reflect a curious harmony — both familiar and otherworldly. The inspiration came unexpectedly during an Easter gathering at my grandmother’s lake house. Amid the bustle, I found myself mesmerized by the glowing leg of ham in the oven — an absurdly divine moment that triggered a feverish sketch session. That image eventually evolved into the Twins, growing legs and gaining fire long before the first cut into stainless steel. Their form and spirit were born from both nostalgia and surreal imagination.
Technically ambitious, the critters use pneumatic actuators and CO₂ to jump, controlled by a custom footplate with momentary switches. Early tests proved wildly unpredictable, leading to the development of a perimeter-safe controller. As they move, their bronze horns align to form the symbol of Gemini, further emphasizing their twinship. Their mythos places them on a distant lava-swept planet, leaping between molten towers in search of crystalline fuel — sometimes even vaulting to nearby moons in search of micro-snacks.
